Why Montessori?
At Our Sun Montessori, we believe in the transformative power of Montessori education. Dr. Maria Montessori's Method, founded over a century ago, is not just an educational approach—it’s a research-based, time-tested philosophy that honors the unique development of every child. Supported by modern research and the latest neuroscience, Montessori education continues to withstand the test of time and scientific scrutiny, providing a nurturing environment that fosters independent learning, creativity, and self-discipline.

In our Montessori classrooms, we embrace multi-age groupings—a core element of Montessori education. This model creates a "practice society" where children of different ages learn from each other, develop leadership skills, and cultivate empathy. The youngest children learn from older peers, while older children reinforce their own understanding by mentoring younger ones. This cycle of learning fosters a collaborative community, where every child is both a learner and a teacher, a vital component in building social and emotional intelligence.

Moreover, Montessori education offers depth and context that is often missing in traditional, standards-based curricula. Our "spiral curriculum" introduces concepts to children at a young age, then revisits and deepens them as they grow, ensuring that learning is interconnected and meaningful. This approach encourages long-term retention and a deeper understanding of complex ideas.

At Our Sun Montessori, individualized academics are at the heart of what we do. Each child follows their unique academic path with lessons tailored to their strengths, challenges, and interests. By allowing children to excel in areas where they are passionate, while providing extra support where needed, we ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive. Montessori teachers observe and guide students with precision, offering lessons that are perfectly suited to each child’s personal journey.
Why Wildflower?
Our Sun Montessori chose the Wildflower School model because it aligns deeply with our vision of creating a community-centered, inclusive, and child-centric learning environment. Wildflower schools are designed to be small, independent, and community-based, which mirrors our mission of creating spaces where Black and Brown students are not only educated but empowered.

Our partnership with Wildflower allows us to combine the best of Montessori’s educational philosophy with a focus on equity and cultural relevance. We are building a school where students’ identities are honored, their voices are heard, and their natural curiosity is encouraged. The Wildflower network offers us the tools and support to nurture not only students but families and educators as well.
We chose Wildflower because it gives us the freedom to create a holistic model that caters specifically to the needs of our community. With an emphasis on restorative practices, African-centered education, and strong family partnerships, Wildflower allows us to take an innovative approach that reflects our community’s values and history. The micro-school model ensures that children receive personalized attention in an intimate environment, enabling deeper connections and more meaningful learning experiences.
At Our Sun Montessori, we see our role not just as educators but as partners in the growth of our community. Through our Montessori approach, Wildflower partnership, and commitment to providing individualized and culturally responsive education, we are creating a space where Black and Brown boys and girls can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This is more than just a school—it is a place where children and families grow together, where learning is an adventure, and where our community’s future leaders are nurtured and celebrated.
